Resolution:
There are three main ways to mute alarms on Back‑UPS products, as described in this article. You can:
- Use Quick Mute,
- Manually customize the On‑Battery alarm settings on the UPS, or
- Disable the alarm through PowerChute™ Serial Shutdown (PCSS).
Option 1 : Quick Mute
The Back-UPS ™is able to temporarily mute user correctable alarms such as On Battery. During such alarms, a short press (less than 2 seconds) of the POWER button will temporarily mute the alarm until the condition has been reset. A short double beep will confirm that Quick Mute has been activated. Pressing the POWER button for more than 2 seconds will turn off the UPS. Other critical events such as Battery replacement and Charger notification can not be temporarily muted. The unit in these cases must be turned off.
Option 2 : Customize On Battery Alarm Settings
With the UPS powered on, you can configure the On‑Battery Indicator Modes by holding down the POWER button and waiting for the third beep. When the third beep sounds, the POWER button will begin cycling red / green. Release the button—its current color indicates the active mode.
Press the POWER button again to cycle through the available modes. Refer to the table below for the three mode‑selection colors. After choosing the desired mode, wait 5 seconds for the UPS to save the setting.
Option 3 : Disable alarms using PowerChute ™ Serial Shutdown for some selected models
You can also configure the UPS audible alarms using PowerChute™ Serial Shutdown (PCSS). Note that PCSS is compatible with the newer Back‑UPS™ models equipped with USB data ports. Also, please note that models with part numbers beginning with BVN typically do not include a USB port.
Additionally, Back‑UPS units will generally work with PCSS when using a Windows operating system (see FAQ000274073 for details). Always check the Compatible Software section on the UPS product page to confirm that your specific model supports PCSS.
IMPORTANT NOTE :
A UPS may emit beeping sounds for several possible reasons. Please refer to FA158827.
