PowerChute Network Shutdown v5.2 – Nutanix Files fails to shut down when VM Prioritization is enabled and vCenter Server is deployed as a VM in the cluster.

Issue
In Nutanix ESXi environments with vCenter Server deployed inside the cluster, Nutanix Files VMs fail to shut down when PowerChute executes a shutdown with VM Prioritization enabled.

Note: Shutdown works normally when VM Prioritization is disabled.

Product Line:

PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) 5.2 and above

Environment:

Nutanix ESXi(AOS 7.3.1) with vCenter Server deployed as a VM and Nutanix Files.

Cause
When VM Prioritization is enabled, vCenter Server is shut down before Nutanix Files, and the afs infra command to stop Nutanix Files fails. PowerChute cannot connect directly to the Nutanix Files VMs over SSH.

Solution:
Disable VM Prioritization, or remove the vCenter Server VM from the Priority group, and enable vCenter shutdown in the Virtualization Settings - vCenter Server VM Shutdown.
