Why Does the Smart-UPS Ultra Battery Cycle Between 94% and 100% State of Charge?

Issue:

The battery state of charge of certain Smart-UPS Ultra models may fluctuate between 94% and 100% during normal operation.

Product Line:

Smart-UPS Ultra 5-10kW

  • Models; SRTL5KRM2UI, SRTL5KRM2UT, SRTL8KRM4UI, SRTL8KRM4UT, SRTL10KRM4UI, SRTL10KRM4UT

Smart-UPS Modular Ultra

  • All models starting with the prefix SRYL

Answer:

This behavior is normal and expected.

The UPS uses a Li-ion battery charging strategy designed to protect battery health. Once the battery reaches 100% state of charge (SoC), the charger is intentionally turned off.

During normal operation, the battery will then discharge slightly. When the SoC drops to approximately 94%, the charger automatically turns back on to recharge the battery.

As a result, the reported battery SoC may cycle between ~94% and 100%. This is part of normal operation and does not indicate a fault or defect.
