Reading ClearSCADA points into Win-911

Win-911 software may connect to ClearSCADA via an OPC client connection.  In order to facilitate this connection the OPC server option must be enabled in the ClearSCADA server license.

When establishing the connection, Win-911 has the ability to read all points from the ClearSCADA database.  While this initially sounds like a great idea, keep in mind that this method results in all OPC properties from all points being read into Win-911.  This can lead to an extremely long read time and result in an abundance of 'tags' in Win-911 which will not be used.

An alternate method for getting point data (i.e. current values) into Win-911 is as follows:

1) Shut down the ClearSCADA server and rename the 'Database' folder.
2) Start the ClearSCADA server.  A new 'Database' folder will be created. (Note: starting with CS 2017 this method may result in the demo database being loaded.  If this happens then you will need to launch ViewX and delete all database objects).
3) Create a single point in the ClearSCADA database.
4) Use Win-911 to read all tags from the ClearSCADA database.
5) Locate the tag in Win-911 what you wish to use (i.e. tag.CurrentValue) and note the syntax that is used.
6) Shut down the ClearSCADA server, restore the original database and restart the ClearSCADA server.
7) In Win-911, manually create tags for the points you wish to monitor using the syntax that you discovered in step 5) above.

Using this method will result in Win-911 containing only the tags that you need and will save you the time of waiting for Win-911 to finish its read of the ClearSCADA database (which could take many hours, depending on the size of the ClearSCADA database).
