Issue:
When PCNS is configured in Advanced UPS configuration with vSAN stretched cluster environment, then Witness VM is displayed in VM Prioritization page.
Product Line:
PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS)
Environment:
vSAN stretched cluster with Witness VM present in Datacenter.
Symptoms:
Witness Appliance (VM) is displayed in PCNS VM Prioritization page.
For VMware 7.0 (ESXi 7.0)
Resolution:
If PCNS is on a physical machine (outside cluster), then add the physical UPS Group to the last group, ie UPS Group 4, as shown in the example below.
Example: In a 2 node vSAN stretched cluster with Witness Appliance, configure PCNS with Advance UPS configuration and map Hosts to UPS Groups as below.
UPS Group 1 - vSAN host1
UPS Group 2 - vSAN host2
UPS Group 3 - Management host (VCSA) and Witness Appliance
UPS Group 4 – PCNS installed physical machine (unmapped group)
Recommendation: The recommended deployment for vSAN Stretched Cluster with Management Host (VCSA) is to place PCNS Appliance on the Management Host.
