Unfortunately, you cannot;
The M340 and M580 ethernet ports can only send or receive Modbus TCP/IP or Ethernet/IP messaging. They cannot read or write in ASCII characters using these protocols.
The only option is to use the M340 Modbus serial port or BMX NOM 0200 module with the INPUT_CHAR or the PRINT_CHAR function blocks to read and write an ASCII string to or from a server device.
