Why can't I ping or connect to my M340 over Ethernet?
Issue
All of the indicators on the M340 indicate a healthy configured Ethernet port but EcoStruxure Control Expert will not connect to it and it does not respond to a Ping from the EcoStruxure Control Expert PC.

Resolution
One possible reason is the IP addresses. The M340 and the PC must be set up on the same LAN. For example, if the M340 is  10.0.0.10  with mask 255.255.255.0 and the PC is 172.20.222.200 with mask 255.255.255.0 they would not connect.  This requires the first 3 octets to match so making the PC 10.0.0.xxx (xxx = not 10) will allow a connection.

If you are not certain of the M340s IP Address, you can use something like Wireshark from wireshark.org to capture network traffic.

Another option if uncertain of the M340 IP Address is to set the switches on the back of the M340 to 'Clear IP'. (There is a legend on the side of the module detailing the switch settings).

When powered up after setting the switch to 'Clear IP' the default IP address format is 84.x.x.x where:

84 = fixed value
x.x.x = the last three fields of the default IP address.
These last three fields are obtained by converting the last three hexadecimal bytes from the MAC address into decimal values.

Example:
The MAC address for an M340 PLC is 00-80-F4-0F-7E-6A

OF Hex = 15 Dec
7E Hex = 126 Dec
6A Hex = 106 Dec

The default Ip = 84.15.126.106.

If you use the 'Clear IP' setting, remember to put it back to 'Stored' when done if the programmed Ip address is to be used moving forward.

*** Port 502 needs to be available for programming, but if the Ip address is properly set up, it will respond to a Ping even if Port 502 is blocked ***
