Plant Scada Secondary server issue (not connecting to OFS running as a Service)

Issue

Is it possible to run OPC Factory Server as a Service and have AVEVA Plant SCADA use it?

OPC Factory Server v3.63 (any Service Pack) running under AVEVA Plant SCADA v2023

Resolution

It is not possible to run OPC Factory Server as a Windows Service and for AVEVA Plant SCADA to use it upon launch of Plant SCADA.

AVEVA Plant SCADA was designed to launch OPC Factory Server WSP as a regular Windows Application and not to be run as a Windows Service.

To ensure AVEVA Plant SCADA communicates properly with OPC Factory Server, please deactivate OPC Factory Server running as a Windows Service with these steps:

1. From Windows Services -> Stop OFService

2. Open Windows File Explorer.

3. Navigate to folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\OFS\Server\

4. Run ofsnoservice.bat

5. Search for and Run "DCOMcnfg" from the Windows Start Bar.

6. Expand Console Root > Component Services > Computers > DCOM Config

7. Select the Schneider-Aut OPC Factory Server application, then go to Properties,

8. Go to Identity and check "The Interactive user" selector box (to remove the Windows Service User).

9. Confirm and close DCOMcnfg

10. Restart Windows
