Power Monitoring Expert - Stored Trim Procedure does not delete Events tied to Acknowledged Alarms

Issue:

The Power Monitoring Expert's software Database Maintenance Tool's trim (or stored procedure dbo.TrimRecords, within the ION Data database tables found in SQL Server Management Studio) does not clear all records in the elected date range.

Environment:

Software & Database Maintenance

Cause:

This could be because a safety design configured within the PME software's programming. The PME software, either through the Database Manager or the stored procedure in SSMS will not trim events that are connected to an acknowledge alarm.

Resolution:

Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.

Warning: This procedure is recommended to be deployed by users familiar with Databases.

To clear the acknowledgement of alarms that are connected to event records the user is trying to delete, please use the following steps:

  1. Access SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) with System Administrator privileges and connect to the SQL instance with the PME databases (Application Modules, ION Data, ION Network, and System Log).
  2. In the upper left corner of your SSMS program interface, find "New Query" and left click on it to open a blank page for a query.

Visual Example:

SQL, SSMS, New, Query, Trim, Database, Maintenance

3. With the New Query tab open, copy and paste the following script into the blank query tab:

USE [ION_Data];

GO

DELETE FROM dbo.AlarmAcknowledgement

WHERE TimestampUTC < 'YYYY-MM-DD';

Visual Example:

SQL, SSMS, New, Query, Trim, Database, Maintenance

4. Modify the Timestamp input to the date of which the alarms of events the user wishes to delete were acknowledged. This may be a later date then when the alarms activated.

For example, we will use January 10th, 2020:

SQL, SSMS, New, Query, Trim, Database, Maintenance

5. Let the query run to completion.

6. Once the query is complete, run the Trim Procedure again either via the PME Database Manager tool located in Management Console, or through executing the stored procedure via a query in SSMS. If the reason why records couldn't get deleted was because of acknowledged alarms, your trim will now be able to clear those records for a full trim execution.
