Can M580 controllers with an Ethernet bus port on the back connect to an X-bus backplane?

Answer

Simply put, the answer is no.

Ethernet controllers and X-bus backplanes are not compatible, neither are X-bus controllers and Ethernet backplanes. The bus technology between the bus port on the back of the controller and the bus technology within the backplane must match. i.e. BMXXBP****with BMXCRA***** and BMEXBP**** with BMECRA*****.

There is a mistake within the Modicon M580 RIO Modules Installation and Configuration Guide (12/2023) that indicates, otherwise. I would like to reenforce, this is a mistake within the documentation. Please refer to the Modicon M580 Catalog (12/2024) for tested compatibilities.
