How to fix "Failed to open the Symbol file" when trying to link a .xvm file in Vijeo Designer?

Issue

When trying to use the xvm file to link the variables from Control Expert into Vijeo Designer, the following message shows:

"Failed to open the Symbol file. The format of the specified file may be invalid or additional software may need to be installed in order to open the file."

Cause

The SRCSDK dll is not registered properly on the PC

Resolution

1/ Go to the following folder:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Schneider Electric Shared\SRCSDK".

It should look something like this

SRCSDK folder

2/ Run Command Prompt as administrator.

3/ Enter:

"cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Schneider Electric Shared\SRCSDK"

Then enter:

"regsvr32.exe SRCSDK.dll"

4/ After getting the confirmation window shown above, restart windows OS and link the .XVM file to VJD again.
