The Shield and GND (ground) connections are internally connected in an ION meter using a diode bridge.


This is the best wiring solution for connecting a 3-Wire RS-485 device to an ION Meter (COM1 or COM2).

NOTE: The fourth wire (Shield) should still be present in the communication wire bundle, but left unconnected at the ION meter.
