In order to view the state of an input or output or view the value of a variable, you must be connected to the M171/M172. Once connected you can activate the "Live Debug mode under the Debug menu. In Live Debug mode you will see the state of your bool variables and the value in your variables.

You can also animate you I/O and variables by dragging the variable names into the Watch Window. To access the Watch Window go to the View menu and select Tool Window/Watch.
