Issue
A customer wants to modify the session timeout setting for the PCSS web user interface (UI).
Background
Session timeout is an important security and performance feature in web applications. It helps PCSS users to:
- Prevent unauthorized access if a session is left unattended
- Reduce the risk of attackers exploiting active sessions
- Remove idle sessions to improve overall application performance
Default Behavior
By default, the PCSS web UI session timeout is set to 15 minutes.
Resolution:
To adjust the session timeout, stop the PCSS service and then modify the configuration file below:
APC\PowerChute Serial Shutdown\agent\etc\webdefault.xml
Locate the following section:
<!-- ==================================================================== -->
<!-- Default session configuration -->
<!-- ==================================================================== -->
<session-config>
<session-timeout>15</session-timeout>
</session-config>
Change the Timeout Value
Update the <session-timeout> value to the desired duration (in minutes).
For example:
- 5 = 5 minutes
- 60 = 1 hour
After making the changes, start the PowerChute service and check if it has taken effect.
Note: Please be advised that upgrading the software reverts the setting back to the default 15 minutes.
