7500 and 7600 Communication Port protection against Lightning strikes

Summary

The 7500 and 7600 meter COM ports have tested for lightning strike resistance.

Specification

The protection of all 7500 and 7600 communication ports (i.e. RS-232, RS-485, Ethernet, and MODEM) against nearby lightning strikes has been tested to meet or exceed IEC 61000-6-2 under a "Class 2 Fast" 1.2/50-microsecond Combination Wave (Test Level: +/- 1 kV).

More Information

The waveform is capacitively coupled to the signal lines using a metallic capacitive clamp. The clamp simulates a conduit that would typically surround communication cables. The surge waveform is applied directly to the capacitive clamp in order to simulate a nearby lightning strike hitting the cabling conduit. The standard that we test to is IEC 61000-6-2, which is called out by the requirements for CE marking.
