Resolution:

To turn off the backlight on an HMIST6/HMISTM6 programmed with EcoStuxure Operator Terminal Expert, we first need to use the following system variable.

Preferences.BacklightOff : If you set this property ON, the back light of the touch panel turns off.

(valid for HMIGTU Series Premium Box, HMIST6 Series, HMISTM6 Series, and HMISTO Series)

Using the following global script, the backlight will turn off after 2 minutes of Inactivity.
