How to implement HAND-OFF-AUTO (HOA) with TeSys Island motor starter
Issue:
Can you configure a TeSys Island starter to function with HOA?
Product Line:
TeSys Island
Resolution:
Hand Off Auto functionality can be implemented with TeSys island by utilizing the Local Control feature of certain avatars. For this example, the Motor One Direction avatar will be described.
Add a Motor One Direction avatar to your configuration project and in the MyAvatar page specify Local Control Enabled. This will link a Digital IO module to the avatar. Ensure that the Control Mode is set to the default of Remote Control. With this setting in nominal conditions the motor will be controlled by the fieldbus (e.g. Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, Profinet).
Wire the HOA switch such that in OFF there is a signal to Manual Mode Override. In Auto, there are no signals to the digital IO, and in HAND there are signals to BOTH Manual Mode Override and Local Forward Command.
What you are doing is in Auto, the motor is in Remote Control, controlled by the PLC. Sending a signal to Manual Mode Override (OFF) will push the avatar into Local Control mode, ignoring PLC commands and respecting only the commands from the Local Forward input of the Digital IO Module. Finally, sending the signal to Local Forward (via HAND switch) while maintaining the manual mode override input (keeping the avatar in Local Control mode) will enable the motor to run.
