Purpose:

To inform customers on the procedure of upgrading the SUMU NMC/Display firmware using the USB Port

Note: The NMC/Display FW update can be performed with the UPS output on

1. Download the firmware upgrade file. Note: Always refer to the web site for UPS model and latest firmware.
2. Create a folder named apcfirm on the USB flash drive.
3. Extract the firmware file.
   1. Double click then run the .exe file.  The following window should open and deselect the option in the red box, then unzip.
   • 
   1. Close the WinZip extractor
   • 
   1. In the new folder created in the download directory, open the folder, and open the 'Bins' folder
   • 
   • 
   1. In the 'Bins' folder, copy just the '.nmc' file and place that file in the apcfirm directory
   • Example
4. Use a text editor to create a file named nmc3.rcf. (The file extension and text format must be .rcf, not .txt for example.)
5. In nmc3.rcf, add a line for the firmware package to be upgraded.
   1. For example, to upgrade Smart-UPS application version v2.x, type: NMC3=apc_hw21_su_2-x.nmc3
6. Save the nmc3.rcf file in apcfirm folder.
   • In order to make sure the file is changed to a .rcf file, please follow the steps below:
     1. In the folder where the "nmc3.rcf" file is saved, go to the 'View' tab and make sure "File name extensions" is checked.
        • 
     2. Find the "nmc3.rcf.txt" file and rename it to just "nmc3.rcf".  Click yes.
        • 
     3. The File Type should now show it as an "RCF File".

7. Insert USB storage device containing NMC/Display firmware update into USB port located on the display

8. Pop-up screen appears acknowledging connected USB storage device; touch OK to continue.  The pop-up screen window is open for approx. 5 sec then disappears.
9. On the USB Storage screen that appears, select “Install NMC Display Firmware” and touch OK
10. Select Yes to continue the update process; select No to abort.  If yes is not touched quickly enough, the menu reverts back to the original message.
    1. Wait for the NMC display to reboot; this will take a couple of minutes.  The display will go blank
    2. Status LED will illuminate amber during the update
11. Navigate to Home -> About -> Display -> right arrow to second window to verify the firmware Application version
12. Navigate to Home -> Configuration -> USB Storage and select Eject storage device when completed
