Can I use my APC UPS in a car or other vehicle?

Issue:
What is our policy on using an APC UPS inside a vehicle for portability and/or mobility?

Product Line:

• All Back-UPS models
• All Smart-UPS models

Environment:
All models of Back-UPS and Smart-UPS being used in a vehicle by using an inverter.

Cause:
Using a UPS in a car can expose it to high temperatures, vibrations, and potential shocks, which can damage the unit and shorten its lifespan.

Resolution:
Schneider Electric recommends against using your APC UPS in a car or any vehicle. For safety reasons, it must be plugged into a properly grounded electrical outlet. APC UPS units are intended for stationary indoor use and should be placed in a stable, well-ventilated environment. Additionally, we do not recommend using your APC Smart-UPS/Back-UPS as a portable power supply that is repeatedly discharged/recharged (like on a portable equipment cart). These units are designed to provide uninterruptible power for emergency use during unexpected power outages or momentary loss of power.
