What is the recommended interval between tests for an RCBO?

The IEC 61008 and IEC 61009 series of product standards require such devices to be fitted with a test button (marked "T") on the front panel. The user can therefore check and be certain that the device is working correctly.

BS-7671 wiring regulations currently state 6 month intervals for pressing the test button.

Our global recommendation regarding testing of an RCD by pressing the test button is to consider the environmental conditions (we recommend a monthly test in harsh environmental conditions) and to follow the local regulations or guidelines on electrical installation inspection and maintenance.

Except for voltage dependent RCDs for which we recommend that the test be carried out:

-       after initial connection and any successive reconnection

- every month, whatever the environmental conditions or exposition to voltage surges

This monthly testing requirement is specific to devices like iC60H RCBO which are voltage dependent technology based.
