SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

Environment:

Report Manager (Reports_ION)
SQL Server Reporting Services configuration
RSWebApplication.config

Cause:

The Report Manager is not configured with a fully qualified Report Server URL. Instead, it references only a virtual directory, which prevents Report Manager from establishing a connection to the report server.

Resolution:

  1. Navigate to the RSWebApplication.config file. By default, it is located at:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportManager\RSWebApplication.config
(The MSSQL.x folder number may vary depending on the SQL instance.)
  2. Open RSWebApplication.config for editing (run the editor as Administrator).
  3. Locate the ReportServer configuration entries under the <UI> section.
  4. Update the configuration as follows:
    1. Set the ReportServerUrl value to the full URL, typically:
      http://localhost/ReportServer_ION
    2. Remove any value from ReportServerVirtualDirectory, leaving it empty.
  5. After the changes, the configuration should appear similar to the following:

6. Save the file.

7. Recycle the Application Pool used by Report Manager in IIS Manager.
a. Recycling the Application Pool forces IIS to reload the updated configuration.

8. Refresh http://localhost/Reports_ION and confirm the Report Manager loads without error.
