In-place Power Monitoring Expert (PME) upgrade - the database upgrade fails at the 'Verify Databases'

Issue
While performing an in-place upgrade to Power Monitoring Expert (PME), the installer can halt at the 'Verify Databases' step.
The database that fails to upgrade is the ION_Data database. This will halt the PME installer and the user is unable to click continue.

The following error may also be seen when attempting to upgrade the 'ION_Data' database via the database manager.

Cause
There is a more detailed message listed in the ION_Data_Upgrade.log file located in the ...\Power Monitoring Expert\Diagnostic folder.
This is the error message that is contained in those logs:

Msg 3729, Level 16, State 2, Server , line 48
Cannot TRUNCATE TABLE 'dbo.PQ_Events' because it is being referenced by object 'vPQ_Events'.

Resolution
*Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. This procedure should only be performed by users familiar with SQL Server Management Studio. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.*

The error in the .log file indicates the presence of the vPQ_Events view which is preventing the truncation of the PQ_Events table and the subsequent upgrade steps.

Using SQL Server Management Studio, delete the vPQ_Events view from the ION_Data database and restart the installer:

  1. Log into SQL Server Management Studio with either a SQL or Windows account that has access to edit the ION_Data database

  2. Expand Databases and find ION_Data

  3. Expand ION_Data and find Views

  4. Expand Views and find vPQ_Events

  5. Right-click on vPQ_Events and select Delete

  6. Click OK in the step box that opens

  7. If the installer is still open click "try again".  If not, start the installer again.
