Modicon M241/251 Controllers: Why the Network Variables List (NVL) communication doesn't work on Ethernet 2 port?
About the TM251MESE:

The Network Variables List (NVL) communication works on the:
• Ethernet 1 port.
• Ethernet 2 port:
- if the Ethernet 1 port has a valid IP address and is connected to a device,
- or if the define ETH2_NVL_Communication has been entered in the Build tab of the Application Properties window.
NOTE: For more information about Compiler defines, refer to the EcoStruxure Machine Expert Programming Guide.
The define ETH2_NVL_Communication is only supported from Machine Expert V2.1.

About the TM241 connected to a TM4ES4:

The TM241 connected to a TM4ES4 has two different Ethernet networks. Each one gets its own and unique IP and MAC address.
The two Ethernet networks are called Ethernet 1 and Ethernet 2:
• Ethernet 1 is a single Ethernet port dedicated to communication between machines or with the control network.
• Ethernet 2 is a separate Ethernet port dedicated to device network connections.
For example, you can:
• Connect your PC to the Ethernet 1.
• Use a Modbus TCP I/O scanner with the Ethernet 2.
