How Do You Configure an ATS48 Soft Starter for Heavy-Duty Applications?
Resolution:
The ATS48 soft starter does not include a specific setting or switch labeled “Heavy Duty.”
To handle heavy-duty applications, follow these configuration best practices:
-
Oversize the Soft Starter
Select a soft starter one size larger than the motor rating, based on the motor’s full load current (FLA). -
Adjust the Overload Class
In addition to the default programming, set the motor thermal protection to a higher class:- Navigate to: PRO → THP (thermal protection parameter)
- Set the overload class to Class 20
- Oversizing ensures the soft starter can handle higher starting currents and longer acceleration times typical of heavy-duty loads.
- Setting Class 20 provides extended thermal protection suitable for demanding applications such as conveyors, crushers, or high-inertia loads.
