Will electric ballasts on florescent lamps cause a GFI circuit breaker to trip?

Issue:
Is there an incompatibility between the GFI breakers and lights with ballasts?

Product Line:
Miniature Circuit Breakers

Resolution:
Electric ballasts may generate harmonics, which make a GFI breaker prone to nuisance tripping. Inrush currents and capacitive discharge to ground can also contribute. Limiting the number of ballasts on a circuit to five or fewer is recommended to avoid nuisance tripping.
