How do small Buck & Boost Transformers supply such large capacity loads?

Issue:
Buck and Boost Transformers often appear to be too small for the large loads they carry

Product Line:
LV Transformers

Environment:
Applies to Buck and Boost Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric

Cause:
Buck and Boost Transformers carry only a small percentage of the total load

Resolution:
Applications for Buck & Boost Transformers consist of wiring the Transformers as Autotransformers.  Autotransformers are physically much smaller than isolation Transformers, depending on the percent voltage change between input and output. The less percentage difference between input and output voltage, the smaller the Autotransformer physical size can be in relation to it`s output kVA capacity. Typical Buck & Boost applications make small changes in voltage. For example, a 5% change in voltage can be done with an Autotransformer that is 1/20th the size of a comparable isolation Transformer.
