Why Does the ATV61/ATV71 HMI Display Show “Connection in Progress”?
Resolution:
If the ATV61 or ATV71 HMI keypad displays “Connection in Progress,” the most common cause is incorrect Modbus communication settings for the port to which the keypad is connected.
Verify Communication Settings
Using SoMove or the drive’s integrated display, check the communication parameters for the connected port:
- Baud Rate: 19200
- Format: 8E1
Check the Correct Communication Menu
The location of these settings depends on where the keypad is connected:
-
Front RJ45 HMI Port
- Navigate to: Communication Menu > Modbus HMI
- Verify the tbr2 (HMI baud rate) parameter.
-
Modbus/CANopen Port on the Control Terminal Board
- Navigate to: Communication Menu > Modbus Network
- Verify the tbr (Modbus baud rate) parameter.
Additional Troubleshooting Steps
If the communication settings are correct, try the following:
-
For remotely mounted keypads, connect the cable to the alternate port (if available).
- If the keypad connects, review and correct the communication settings for the original port.
-
Connect the HMI directly to the drive.
- If it works, the remote mounting cable or mounting kit may be faulty and should be inspected or replaced.
-
Test with a known-good keypad (VW3A1101).
- If the replacement keypad works, the original keypad may be defective.
-
Replace the control board if necessary.
- If a known-good keypad does not connect directly to the drive and the communication settings have been verified, the drive’s control board may require replacement.
