Do You Need to Remove the Factory Jumpers on Altivar ATV61/ATV71 Drives?
Resolution:
Altivar ATV61 and ATV71 drives are shipped with two factory-installed jumpers. In normal applications, these jumpers should remain in place. They are only removed in specific, intentional use cases.
PA/PO Jumper (DC Bus)
- Default: Leave installed. The jumper connects the internal DC bus as designed.
- When to remove: Only if an external DC choke is installed.
In this case, the choke replaces the jumper connection. - Important: If the jumper is removed, the terminal screws must still be fully tightened due to high current flow in this circuit.
PWR / +24 VDC Jumper (Power Removal Function)
- Default: Leave installed. This allows the drive to operate normally.
- When to remove: When integrating a safety circuit, such as:
- An emergency stop (E-stop)
- A shutdown circuit using a normally closed, dry contact
- Removing this jumper allows the Power Removal safety function to disable motor operation when the safety circuit opens.
Summary
