ATV61/ATV71: How to Configure HMI Start/Stop Control with AI2 as a 4–20 mA Speed Reference
First, wire the 4–20 mA speed reference signal to AI2 and COM. Then configure AI2 for a current signal and set the command/reference channels as follows.
1. Configure AI2 for the 4–20 mA signal
Navigate to:
Drive Menu → 1.5 [INPUTS/OUTPUTS CFG] → AI2 Configuration
Set:
- AI2 Type: Current
- AI2 Min Value: 4 mA
- AI2 Max Value: 20 mA
This configures AI2 to accept the 4–20 mA speed-reference signal.
2. Configure AI2 as the speed reference
Navigate to:
Drive Menu → 1.6 [COMMAND]
Set:
- Ref. 1 Channel: AI2
- Profile: SEP (Separate)
- CMD Switching: Channel 1 Active
- CMD Channel 1: HMI
The SEP (Separate) profile allows the command source and reference source to be configured separately. In this setup, the HMI is selected as the command channel while AI2 is selected as the speed-reference channel.
3. ATV61 Ref. 1B consideration
On the ATV61, Ref. 1B Channel is set to AI2 by default. If the drive does not allow Ref. 1 Channel to be changed to AI2, go to:
Drive Menu → 1.7 [APPLICATION FUNCT.]
Unassign Ref. 1B Channel, then return to Menu 1.6 [COMMAND] and set Ref. 1 Channel = AI2.
Final Control Structure
Start/Stop Command: HMI
Speed Reference: AI2
AI2 Signal Type: Current
AI2 Scaling: 4–20 mA
Command Profile: SEP (Separate)
This configuration allows the operator to start and stop the drive from the HMI while the external 4–20 mA signal on AI2 determines the drive speed reference.
