How do you size a full voltage bypass contactor for open atyle ATS48 soft starters?
Resolution:
The full voltage bypass contactor should be sized based on the motor full load current (FLA).
Additional considerations:
If a bypass mode contactor is installed in the field, you may also need to install a line isolation contactor.
It is recommended to include normally closed (NC) auxiliary contacts to interrupt the control power supply (CL1–CL2) to the soft starter when operating in full voltage bypass mode.
This ensures proper operation and protects the soft starter by removing control power when it is no longer in the circuit and avoid triggering faults in the SoftStarter due to the current flowing through the bypass contactor.
