Issue
How to get a .xef export of the Unity application for importing into Web Designer

Product Line
EcoStruxure Control Expert (formerly known as Unity Pro), Web Designer

Environment
Unity Pro v8.0, Windows 7 Professional, Web Designer

Resolution
Web Designer requires a '.xef' file for the Unity application import into the 'PLC Program Viewer'.  If you try to export the Unity application to a '.xef' file, the option
will not be available.  The option to export a Unity application to a '.xef' file was removed in Unity 8.  The software only allows an export to a '.zef' file.  The '.xef' file is
included as part of the the '.zef' exported file.

To get the '.xef' file for the Unity application:
  • Save the Unity application.
  • Click on File\Export.
  • Export the application to a '.zef' file.
  • Rename the '.zef' file to a .zip file.
  • Open the file with Winzip or Windows explorer.
  • Copy the '.xef' file to a temporary folder.
Note:  WebDesigner uses the signature of the .'xef' file to synchronize the application the PLC with the application data in the PLC Program Viewer.  If any
changes are made to the Unity application in the PLC, the process must be repeated to get the updated '.xef' file that contains the new signature.

This synchronization step is not required if you are using the automatic synchronization (Data Dictionary and Program Viewer Information) in the Unity
project settings that is applicable only to the M340 and M580.
