Why can I not connect to a Meter through ION Setup through Win/Soft modem but I can connect in PME

Issue
When trying to connect in ION Setup to a meter with a software modem connection I am not able to connect. However, I can make a good connection to the meter in Power Monitoring Expert

Cause
ION Setup will only work with standard modems equipped with an actual processor (normal modems) and will NOT work with Windows Only based modems (known as WinModems).  Typically WinModems (or Softmodem which stands for Software-based modems) use Windows Drivers to simulate a modem.

Resolution
ION Setup modem connections will only work with standard modems equipped with an actual processor (normal modems). If the user is using a Win/Soft modem they must use a separate traditional modem or switch the Win/Soft Modem to a traditional hardware modem.
