Why does an ATV61 or ATV71 drive not respond to commands over Modbus TCP/IP?
Resolution:
A Server IP address may be configured in the drive's Modbus TCP/IP settings. When a Server IP address is assigned, the drive accepts control commands only from the device using that IP address.
If the controlling PLC or Modbus TCP/IP client has a different IP address, the drive may communicate normally but will not accept its command or reference values.
Check the Server IP address configured in the drive.
- If only one PLC controls the drive, verify that the Server IP address matches the IP address of that PLC.
- For troubleshooting, temporarily unassign or clear the Server IP address.
- After clearing the Server IP address, test communication by writing to the drive's command word and speed reference.
- If the drive responds after the Server IP address is removed, verify the IP address of the intended controller before configuring the Server IP again.
This setting helps ensure that control commands are accepted only from the intended Modbus TCP/IP controller.
Modbus TCP uses Ethernet as a transport layer to deliver a Modbus payload. You might need to set a Modbus Address on parameter ADD. Even when it is for Modbus Serial, this parameter might need to have a value matching the unit ID in the PLC.
