Why does Schneider/Square D add tamper proof or one way screws to factory assembled panel interiors?
Issue:
Schneider/Square D blocks out panel interiors using oneway screws to prevent adding additional breakers

Product Line:
Panels

Environment:
NQOD, NQO, NQOB, NQ, NF, NEHB

Cause:
Tamper proof screws installed and cannot be removed

Resolution:
There are a few reasons why tamper proof Screws may be in a panel:
1. At the time of order, additional spaces were not selected. We may block out any unspecified or selected spaces.
2. The panel may have been selected with a high leg. In order to meet UL standards we will block out any unused high legs spaces to ensure no one will be able to install a single pole or 2 pole breaker that is not rated for the high leg voltage.
3. If the panel was selected to be used per the 6 disconnect rule, we will block out all other spaces to ensure the panel is used for that application only.

This does not apply to RTI (ready to assembled) panels. RTI panels are provided intact as rated. It is the responsibility of the installer to make sure the panel is properly marked for the application.
