Can an ATV630 or other Altivar drive be used with motors having different numbers of poles, such as 2-pole, 4-pole, or 8-pole motors?
Yes. The drive does not require the number of motor pole pairs to be entered manually.
Program the drive using the motor nameplate information, making sure the Motor Rated Speed matches the RPM listed on the motor nameplate.
Typical motor speeds at 60 Hz are approximately:
- 2-pole motor: 3600 RPM range
- 4-pole motor: 1800 RPM range
- 8-pole motor: 900 RPM range
For the ATV630 and other Altivar Process drives, enter the appropriate Motor Rated Current and Motor Rated Speed from the motor nameplate.
Equivalent parameters on other Altivar drives include:
- ATV212: F415 and F417
- ATV12 / ATV312 / ATV320 / ATV340: nCr (Motor Rated Current) and nSP (Motor Rated Speed)
- ATV61 / ATV71 / Altivar Process: Motor Rated Current and Motor Rated Speed
The drive uses the programmed motor nameplate speed, so the motor's number of pole pairs does not need to be configured separately.
