Would a soft start be a suitable device for a crane hoist application?

Resolution:
Hoisting application on a crane is not a good application to use a soft start on because of the reduced starting torque. It may be possible to use on other parts of the crane as long as they do not require rated torque at start-up. If a lot of torque is needed and soft starting is required may want to go with a drive.
