Why Do %O Trip Characters Return a Blank Value in Alarm Redirection Emails?
When using %O trip characters in alarm redirection emails, the expected value may sometimes appear as a blank field.
Normally, if a trip sequence contains invalid syntax or references an object that cannot be found, Geo SCADA replaces the trip character with a diagnostic message explaining the error. However, a blank result without any diagnostic message is typically caused by a permissions issue. If the user receiving the alarm notification does not have permission to view the object or data referenced by the %O trip character, Geo SCADA will omit the value from the email rather than display it. In all other failure scenarios, such as an invalid trip sequence or a reference to a non-existent object, Geo SCADA Expert would normally include an error message indicating the reason. Therefore, when a %O trip character returns a blank value with no accompanying diagnostic message, permissions should be the primary area of investigation. Ensure that the recipient has sufficient access rights to view the referenced object and its properties. Once the required permissions are granted, the value should appear correctly in the alarm redirection email.
