How to Properly Decommission an M580 CPU and Successfully Discover It in Cybersecurity Admin Expert (CAE)
Customers are deploying M580 CPUs with firmware version 4.60 together with Cybersecurity Admin Expert (CAE) 4.2.1 to centralize cybersecurity management and configuration.
During the CAE onboarding process, after:
- Creating the project
- Creating users and assigning roles
- Initiating device discovery from CAE
the M580 CPU can be successfully discovered and added to the System Editor. The device can then be selected and marked as Trusted.
Although CAE establishes communication with the controller, the following popup message may appear:
The device has not been properly decommissioned.
This indicates that the controller is not in the required Out-of-Box (OOB) state.
Expected Controller State After Decommissioning
After a successful decommissioning, the M580 CPU must return to its Out-of-Box state.
The LED indications should be:
- ERR LED blinking red
- ETH NS LED blinking green
- ETH MS LED blinking green
If the controller is not in this state, CAE may reject the device during the commissioning process.
Decommissioning Procedure for M580 CPUs
White M580 CPU
For white M580 CPUs (without a rotary reset switch), the only supported decommissioning method is through the embedded web page.
Login Credentials
Connect to the CPU web page using:
Username: modbususer
Password: The Application Password configured in EcoStruxure Control Expert.
Procedure
- Log in to the CPU web page.
- Open the Configuration tab.
- Perform the Decommission operation.
- Wait until the controller reaches one of the following states:
- All LEDs OFF
- Only the SEC LED illuminated
- Perform a complete power cycle of the rack.
After restart, the controller will boot in the Out-of-Box state and can be onboarded by CAE.
Grey M580 CPU
For grey M580 CPUs, the controller can be decommissioned either:
- Through the embedded web page as described above, or
- By using the Cybersecurity Reset rotary switch located on the rear of the controller.
Cybersecurity Reset Procedure
| Step | Action |
| 1 | With the controller powered off and unplugged, turn the rotary wheel to Cybersecurity Reset and plug in the controller. |
| 2 | When the Sec LED is the only LED that is red ON, unplug the controller and restore the rotary wheel to the original position. |
| 3 | Plug in the controller again. |
| 4 | Reset the backplane by pressing the Reset button on the power supply module on the same backplane. |
After the procedure is completed, the CPU should restart in the Out-of-Box state and be ready for onboarding into CAE.
