Issue:

During Uninstall of the versions 2.3.1, 2.4.0 and 2.5.0 of Schneider Electric Software Update, the following issue may occur:

Screen capture of message

Product Line:

All Schneider Electric Software supporting the Schneider Electric Software Update Tool.

Environment:

Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10

Cause:
This occurs when:
(Case A) the installation media of this version and its backups created during the installation had been deleted on the PC by a third-party application such as an Antivirus/Anti-malware software deployed by your IT department or
(Case B) the Windows User that you are logged in as does not have Administrative rights to create folders, move files into, or read from the folder that it is extracted into when running the installation file.
The path that the self-extractor puts it into is the default temporary file location of Windows

-> typically: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\<temporaryFolderCreatedByWindows>\"

Resolution:
If it is determined that the issue is Case A:

  • In your antivirus or anti-malware software, designate the installer file into the allowed/permitted applications list for the antivirus/anti-malware software that is installed on your PC.
  • If you are not the Administrator of the PC, talk to your IT Administrator for your PC/Laptop in order to perform the action.

If it is determined that the issue is Case B:

  • Attempt to change the Permissions on the "...\AppData\Temp\" folder by these steps:
  1. Right click on the "...\AppData\Temp\" folder and select Properties.
  2. Choose [Security].
  3. Select the Username you are logged in as under "Group or Usernames".
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Perform the same edits in the Permissions window.
  6. Select the username you typed from Group or Usernames and tick "Full Control" under "Permission For".
  7. Click Apply
  8. ClickOK.
  • If you are unable to make these changes or you are prompted to enter the credentials as an Administrator upon attempting this change, you will need to talk to your IT Administrator for your PC/Laptop in order to perform the addition of the rights to the Windows User.

Right click on the Application data folder and select Properties.
Choose [Security]. Select the username you are logged in as under "Group or user names". Click Edit. Now do the same in the Permissions window.
Select the username you typed from Group or user names and check "Full Control" under "Permission for".
Click Apply and OK.
