PowerChute Network Advanced - Session Timeout Configuration

Issue

This article describes how to configure the session timeout for the PowerChute Network Advanced Configuration Tool. The session timeout determines how long a user session remains active before the user is automatically logged out due to inactivity.

• Permission to edit configuration files in the PowerChute Network Advanced installation directory
• Permission to restart Windows services

Configuration Steps

Step 1: Locate the Configuration File

Navigate to the `config` folder in your PowerChute Network Advanced installation directory and open the `application.properties` file in a text editor.

Step 2: Find the Session Timeout Property

Locate the following line in the configuration file:

# Session inactivity timeout (e.g. 15m, 1h)
# You can use the following suffixes: ms (milliseconds), s (seconds), m (minutes), h (hours), d (days).
# Note: A number without a suffix is treated as milliseconds.
server.servlet.session.timeout=15m

Step 3: Modify the Timeout Value

Change the session timeout value to your desired duration. For example:

Save the `application.properties` file after making your modifications.

Step 5: Restart the Service

For the configuration changes to take effect, restart the PowerChute Network Advanced Windows service:

1. Open the Windows Services Manager (Start → Services, or run `services.msc`)
2. Locate PowerChute Network Advanced in the list
3. Right-click on the service and select Restart
4. Wait for the service to fully restart. When the service has restarted, the PowerChute Network Advanced Configuration Tool can be accessed using a web browser as described in the user guide.

Notes

• Minimum Timeout: Must be greater than 0 (any positive value). Setting the value to `0` to configure sessions that never expire is not supported.
• Maximum Timeout: There is no upper limit for the timeout. However, very high values are not recommended for security reasons.
• Invalid values: If an invalid value is provided, the system will fall back to a default of 15m
• Default time unit A numeric value without a suffix is treated as milliseconds.
