What is bus bracing and is it the same as the SCCR?
Issue:
Is the AIC rating the same thing as bus bracing or bus rating?

Product Line:
All panel and switchboards

Resolution:
Bus bracing relates to the equipment bus bars withstanding the mechanical forces that will be created by the extreme magnetic field repulsion between bus bars under fault current conditions.  However, it is usually expressed as a current value that correlates to the magnetic forces associated during fault conditions.

An example: "Bus Bracing = 100kA", indicates that the bus support structure will survive the mechanical repulsion forces expressed between the bus bars during a fault with a magnitude of 100,000 amperes.

Regardless of the bus bracing, the bus rating will be labeled as the AIC rating, based on the lowest AIC rated breaker or switch, selected in the product selector build of the product.

Bus rating relates to the bus amperage rating.  Thermal-rated through bus is a standard offering. Density Rated bus is equal to the following: 750A/ sq.in. is for aluminum and 1000A/ sq. in for copper.  Density rated bus must be selected as an option through the product selector when required
