LV motor control centers are key components in mining power systems with high impact on total electrical distribution cost. This paper describes LV switchgear types used in typical installations compliant with IEC and ANSI/NEMA standards. It analyses advantages and disadvantages of each LV switchgear type for the mining power systems applications. It provides practical advice and recommendations to EPCs and mining end-users involved in power system design.
