APC SmartConnect Device Sharing Feature

Issue:
Users need to share access to SmartConnect-enabled devices with other team members or service providers.

Product Line:
SmartConnect-enabled Smart-UPS devices

Environment:

Cause:
Need information about Device Sharing feature and its configuration process in the SmartConnect platform.

Resolution:
SmartConnect’s Device Sharing feature allows a device owner to share access with up to five other users, enabling collaborative monitoring and management without transferring ownership.

Key Capabilities:

• Shared users can monitor, configure, and control devices (e.g., firmware upgrades, diagnostics, remote reboot).
• Shared users can apply licenses, download reports, and add devices to notification policies.
• Only the device owner can register or delete a device from the system.
• All user actions are logged in the Event Log for traceability.
  
  

How to Share a Device:

1. Log in to the SmartConnect Web Portal.
2. Go to Device Management.
3. Select the device(s) you want to share.
4. Click “Share”.
5. Enter the email address of the user you want to share with and confirm.
6. The recipient will receive an email with a confirmation code and device details.
7. The recipient must have or create a SmartConnect account to accept the shared device.
   
   

Notes:

• Shared users can only remove the device from their view, not delete it from the system.
• Device sharing is only available for devices on Standard or Advanced plans.
• If a device falls to Basic monitoring, it remains shared but loses advanced features until upgraded again.
• Notifications and remote control features are unavailable on Basic plans.
