Why am I unable to connect to the Modicon Switch after loading the PRP predefined configuration files?

After loading the PRP predefined configuration files onto the Modicon Switch, you may experience connectivity issues with the MCSESM or MCSESR switch. This may occur because the connected port is configured for VLAN tagging. To resolve this and restore access to the MCSESM or MCSESR switches, follow the steps outlined below:

MCSESR Switch: Ports 1/3 and 1/4 are configured as VLAN = 1

1. Connect ethernet cable to Ports 1/1 or 1/2

MCSESM Switch: All Ports are configured as VLAN = 1

Option 1: Wait for Auto-Negotiation

1. Some Network Interface Cards (NICs) can auto-negotiate after a short delay.
2. After loading the configuration files to the MCSESM switch, wait 2–5 minutes.
3. Once the negotiation process completes, the switch will allow communication.

Option 2: Configure your PC NIC for VLAN (Note: Enabling VLAN tagging on PC will require admin privileges)

1. Open Network Connections and locate your NIC.
2. Right-click the NIC → Properties.
3. Click Configure → Advanced tab.
4. Find Jumbo Packet or Jumbo Frame (name may vary by NIC).
   1. Set value to 4088 Bytes (required for PRP header).
5. Find Packet Priority & VLAN or Priority & VLAN (name may vary by NIC).
   1. Set value to Enabled.
6. Click OK and wait a few seconds for changes to apply.
7. Connect to the MCSESM switch webpage using your assigned IP address.

Option 3: Use a secondary switch

1. After loading configuration files to the MCSESM switch:
   1. Insert an unmanaged switch or a managed switch with VLAN tagging disabled between the Modicon switch and your PC.

Option 4: Modify One Port to Remove VLAN Tagging

1. This option should only be used on MCSESM switches and should be applied to a port dedicated for troubleshooting purposes.
