Geo SCADA ViewX Fails to Launch Due to Elevated Permissions
With Geo SCADA 2023 and 2025, there have been some reports of ViewX failing to launch and displaying the following message:
The reason for this is as follows: Recent versions of Geo SCADA 2023 and 2025 include an updated version of CefSharp (Chromium Embedded Framework). As a result of security changes within Chromium, running Chromium-based applications with elevated administrative privileges is no longer supported.
To correct this behaviour, and allow ViewX to launch properly, review endpoint privilege management policies and ensure that:
- ViewX.exe is not automatically elevated
- "Run as Administrator" is not enforced
- Elevation inheritance rules are not applied to Geo SCADA applications
- Users launch ViewX with standard user permissions
ViewX does not require administrator permissions for normal operation. Running it as an administrator introduces additional security risks, while providing no operational benefit.
