Schneider Electric Netmanage Server , Windows Security pop-up asking for Network access permission.
Issue:
Customer installed Machine Expert Basic v1.4 on their Windows 11 PC.
They are getting a prompt about the Schneider Electric Netmanage Server and wanted to know if this can be allowed.
Product Line:
Machine Expert, Machine Expert Basic.
Resolution:
The Windows Security prompt is requesting permission for the Schneider Electric Netmanage Server to communicate through the Windows Firewall.
If you have to consider Security:
we recommend allowing this application on Private networks only.
Please note that the “Public network” setting does not necessarily mean that the Ethernet connection has Internet access. It is a Windows network profile used for unidentified or untrusted networks. Since the Ethernet connection has no Internet connection and may not be fully identified by Windows, Windows has assigned it the Public network profile by default.
If this Ethernet connection is dedicated to a trusted industrial network, such as a direct connection to a PLC or a controlled machine network, the network profile can be changed as follows:
Windows Settings → Network & Internet → Ethernet → Network profile type → Private
After changing the Ethernet profile to Private, please allow the Schneider Electric Netmanage Server through the firewall for Private networks only and leave Public networks unchecked.
This configuration should allow the required device discovery and Ethernet communication functions while avoiding unnecessary exposure when the PC is connected to an untrusted public network.
If the network profile cannot be changed or automatically returns to Public after restarting the PC, please contact the local IT administrator, as the setting may be controlled by the company’s Windows security policy.
But to ensure maximum compatibility, it is also allowing the application on public networks, provided that the PC is connected to a trusted and controlled network, such as an internal industrial network or a direct connection to a PLC.
