Schneider Electric Lays Foundation of its New State-of-the-art Factory in Kolkata

- Investment of INR 140 crores in the state

Schneider Electric, the global leader in digital transformation of energy management and next-gen automation, hosted the ground breaking ceremony of its new manufacturing plant at Prospace Industrial Park Pvt Ltd., in Kolkata. Covering an area of 9 acres, this new facility will involve an investment of INR 140 crores. Schneider Electric aims to accelerate and significantly grow its capacity in producing products such as Vacuum Interrupters (VI) and strengthen its power systems vertical through this new factory. This new facility is planned to be completed by February 2024, with the manufacturing operations expected to start in the second quarter of the next financial year.

Mr. Deepak Sharma, Zone President (Designate) – Greater India, Schneider Electric and MD and CEO SEIPL (Designate), said, “Today marks a momentous occasion for the Schneider Electric family. This upcoming world class factory in Kolkata is aimed at accelerating our commitment to ‘Make in India’. We will be investing approximately INR 140 crores for setting up of this new facility which will enable economic development and job creation in the state. With 60 years of presence in India, we will continue to contribute actively towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat by manufacturing in India for India and for the globe. Our efforts are aimed at cementing India’s position as a world leader in exports and manufacturing. I thank the Government of India and West Bengal for their support”

Mr. Nitin Bakshi, Vice President, Global Supply Chain- India, MEA, SAM & Pacific, Schneider Electric added, “The idea behind the development of this factory is to strengthen India’s growing position as a global force in manufacturing and exports. This upcoming factory will bind the power of India’s talent and vision of self-reliance into a global phenomenon. This new facility will export 50% of the peak volume capacity, meeting the need of customers in India and across the world. Our new age digital technologies will prove to be a game changer in the energy management industry for years to come.”

Schneider Electric aims to strive for excellence in technology and sustainability to meet the dynamically changing needs of its customers and partners. In December 2022, we announced consolidation of 6 of our existing factories to launch one of our largest smart factories, globally, in Bengaluru. In Sept 2022, we announced the groundbreaking of our new smart factory in Hyderabad which upon completion will be our 2nd smart factory in the city. Our existing smart factory in Hyderabad has been recognized as an Advanced Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum.

    Deepak Sharma is the Zone President, Greater India and MD & CEO, Schneider Electric India (SEIPL). He has 30 years of experience with over 25 years at Schneider Electric, handling diverse roles based out of India, France, China, and the USA across Energy Management & Industrial Automation businesses. Starting in India as a Product Manager for Industrial Automation & Power Products business, Deepak has managed various global roles working across hubs of Schneider Electric in France, China, and the USA - in both Energy Management and Industrial Automation businesses. His journey took a full circle when he moved back to India in 2019 and led the integration of L&T Electrical and Automation Business with Schneider Electric as SVP, Mergers & Acquisitions. This integration was a key enabler in making India the 3rd largest market and one of the four global hubs of Schneider Electric, with 38000 employees and 31 factories. Deepak champions the usage & adoption of energy-efficient and green technologies. He aims to contribute towards a more sustainable, more electric, more digital business and societal environment. He has graduate and postgraduate degrees, and diplomas in management & Electrical Engineering, and is successfully trained through executive education programs of IIM-Ahmedabad, INSEAD France, and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, USA. Deepak actively engages with industrial bodies and associations. He is currently Vice Chair, CII National Committee on Smart Cities & Urban Development and a Governing Council Member of Indo French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFFCI).
