Issues in ION Setup when saving Site Or Meter with foreign language characters in name
Issue:
When creating or editing a Site or Meter in ION Setup and saving a name that includes foreign-language characters (for example: é, ñ, ø, ç, or non-Latin scripts):
ION Setup 2.0: May stop responding (hang/freeze) during the save operation.
ION Setup 3.0: Save completes, and the application continues to work; however, the unsupported characters may display as question marks (?).
Product Line:
ION Setup
Environment:
- ION Setup
- Action: Adding or editing a Site or Meter and then saving the record
Cause:
ION Setup does not reliably support storing or rendering foreign-language / extended Unicode characters in Site or Meter names.
- In ION Setup 2.0, this limitation can cause the application to become unresponsive when attempting to save.
- In ION Setup 3.0, the save typically succeeds, but unsupported characters may be converted to ? (loss of character fidelity).
Resolution:
Use only standard ASCII characters when naming Sites or Meters.
Recommended naming guidance:
- Use letters A–Z, a–z, digits 0–9, and common keyboard punctuation (e.g., -, _, .).
- Avoid accented characters (e.g., é, ü, ñ) and non-Latin scripts.
Example (preferred):
- Building_A_North
- Meter-3_Main
