Issue:
Why does my APC Surge Arrest or UPS show a Site or Building Wiring Fault when plugged into a Schneider OffGrid Portable Power Station?
Product Line:
Schneider OffGrid Portable Power Station, Back-UPS, Back-UPS Pro, Smart-UPS (120V), Smart-UPS Ultra (120V)
Environment:
All serial numbers
Resolution:
A Site or Building Wiring Fault will show when an APC Surge Arrest or UPS is plugged into a Schneider OffGrid PPS (Portable Power Stations) as the PPS does not have a proper ground. A Surge Arrest or a UPS requires a proper Ground as it's basic requirement to properly protect the loads. It is not recommended to plug in a Surge Arrest or UPS to the PPS and loads should be directly plugged-in to the PPS.

Plugging in a surge protector into your PPS:
The noise filtration circuitry in a surge protector can effectively "mask" some of the load from the PPS, causing the PPS to report a lower percentage of attached load than there actually is. This can cause a user to inadvertently overload their PPS. Surge protectors utilize MOVs (Metal Oxide varistors) in their circuitry. Nonconforming MOVs in a surge protector connected to a PPS may cause the PPS to report an overload. In addition, a PPS is typically not plugged in to utility power when used. So there is no risk of having a surge to be passed to the loads.
Plugging a UPS into your PPS:
A UPS functions similarly to a PPS. However, in order for your UPS to get the best power available, a UPS should always be directly plugged into the wall receptacle. A UPS' main function it to detect, monitor, clean utility power, and to give a user ample amount of time, when there are power issues, to save anything they are doing when using a computer. While a PPS, is designed for portability and provide power while offsite.
