How to access Web Gate since Internet Explorer was discontinued June 15, 2022?

Issue:
Microsoft discontinued support for Internet Explorer starting June 15, 2022. How can Web Gate be accessed using Microsoft Edge?

Product Line:
Vijeo Designer

Resolution:
With the announcement from Microsoft that Internet Explorer desktop browser support was discontinued as of June 15, 2022, we have revised a method to continue to access Magelis/Harmony HMIs via Web Gate (when programmed with Vijeo Designer).

There is a feature in the Microsoft Edge Browser that allows us to load web pages in Internet Explorer Mode. This feature was added as part of the Windows 10 update (10.0.19041 Build 19041 as tested). Note that the Web Gate Client files and Active X still need to be installed on the computer (as if we were going to use Internet Explorer).

To setup Internet Explorer Mode, please follow this procedure:

1) Launch Microsoft Edge Browser.

2) Click on the three dots on the top right of the browser window as shown below:
Microsoft Edge - [...] button (three dot button)
Alternatively, you may use Shortcut Keys: Alt+F

3) From the picklist, choose Settings:
Choose Settings

4) In the menu that appears on the left side of the screen, click on Default Browser:
Default Browser settings

5) Under “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” select “Allow”:Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode (IE mode)

6)     Shut down Microsoft Edge and restart Microsoft Edge:For this setting change to take effect, restart your browser

7) Navigate to your Web Gate page from the address bar by typing in the IP Address of the HMI:
http://<ipaddress>/ if the port is 80 (default in the project)
http://<ipaddress>:<port>/ if the port is set otherwise in the Vijeo Designer project

8) Click on the three dots on the top right of the browser and choose “Reload in Internet Explorer mode”:
Reload in Internet Explorer mode

9)  Activate the setting to Open the page in Internet Explorer mode next time:
Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time

NOTE: This setting will remember the URL for 30 days. After which, you will have to add it again. This can be observed and managed in the "Default browser" settings page:
Manage Internet Explorer mode pages

10)  Now we can use Web Gate as usual.
Notice the lower case blue "e" logo at the left of the URL Address bar indicating that this tab is running in Internet Explorer mode:

NOTE: The usual Web Gate settings required in Internet Explorer are still required. For example, the Protected Mode in IE will need to be unchecked (or the site should be added to the list of safe sites).
